Last week Ford & Slater hosted a series of apprentice open evening events at our dealerships in Norwich, Peterborough and Leicester, resulting in over fifty young people and family members stopping by to find out more about our three apprenticeships in HGV mechanics, bodyshop repair and parts sales.
Visitors began the evening with a presentation led by a member of our Apprentice Panel, where they learned more about the company, about DAF Trucks and about the bones of the apprentice programmes.
Donning a Ford & Slater high-vis, the guests were then taken on a tour of the dealership before heading to a pre-prepared workshop area to try their hand at a variety of technical tasks, including diagnostics, underbody inspections and welding.
Ford & Slater Apprentice Coordinator, Lee Sursham, chaperoned each event and was pleasantly surprised at the overall turnout. “We have had increasingly great success with our open evenings and this year the responses we had were phenomenal. Each evening was well attended, and the majority of visitors had a genuine, keen interest in truck mechanics and finding out more about working with us.
“I am so pleased with the turn out this year; we have already had a few people from each visit contact us for more information or work experience opportunities; I look forward to processing these and seeing how they get on.”
A huge thank you goes to all staff who assisted with the three-day event; we could not have pulled off such an outstanding week without our apprentices, chaperones, health and safety officers, mentors and staff. Thank you also to everyone who came along and showed a keen interest in the work we do. We hope to see more from you in the future.
